名前はンダカジ。ンダカジは、２０１９年に世話係のアンドレ・バウマさんと撮った写真が話題となりました。

人気者のゴリラが天国へ
それから約２年が過ぎた２０２１年１０月、ヴィルンガ国立公園が再び、アンドレさんとンダカジの写真を公開。
つづられていたのは、ンダカジが天国へと旅立ったという報告でした。
ウェブメディア『The Dodo』によると、ンダカジが保護されたのは２００７年で、まだ生後２か月の赤ちゃんだったそう。
密猟者によって命を奪われた母親の体をつかんでいたところを発見されたといいます。
母親と引き離されたンダカジが保護されたその日から、アンドレさんはずっと親代わりとしてンダカジの世話をしてきました。
ンダカジは長い間病気を患っていて、それが急に悪化し、最期はアンドレさんの腕の中で息を引き取りました。

Sick Ndakasi with MGVP Vets and AndreWhen the vets finished their work, Ndakasi was groggy but waking up. Andre held her for a long time until she was fully awake and feeling a bit back to normal.

保護されてからずっと一緒に過ごしてきたアンドレさんは、ンダカジにとって父親であり、親友だったといいます。
最愛のアンドレさんの腕の中で眠りについたンダカジは、幸せだったことでしょう。
そして、ンダカジの思い出はこれからもずっと、アンドレさんや人々の心の中に生き続けるはずです。
