ウエスタンデジタルコーポレーション（NASDAQ: WDC）は本日、地球環境フットプリントにポジティブな影響を与える当社の中核的な取り組みをさらに拡大する、サステナビリティ活動の新しい目標を発表しました。この新たな目標では、100%再生可能エネルギーで事業を運営、事業全体でスコープ1およびスコープ2排出量(*1)のネットゼロ達成ならびに水と廃棄物の削減目標達成に焦点を当てています。
サステナビリティ戦略はウエスタンデジタルの事業における中核をなしています。ウエスタンデジタルでは、すでに綿密に立案した計画を実行し、再生可能エネルギーで特定の設備を稼働させ、生産ユニットあたりのエネルギー消費量を削減するなどの設定目標を達成しています。当社が今回新たにコミットする具体的な目標には、以下のものが含まれています。
● 2030年までに100%再生可能エネルギーでグローバル事業を運営する
● 2032年までに事業活動における排出量を実質ゼロ（スコープ1および2）にする
● 2030年までに水の使用量を20%削減する
● 2030年までに事業廃棄物の95%以上を埋立地に廃棄せずに他の方法で処理する

ウエスタンデジタルが確立したサステナビリティプログラムでは、すでに意欲的な目標を設定しており、業界からも認められています。たとえば、2030年までにスコープ1と2の排出量を42%削減し、スコープ3の使用段階での排出量/テラバイトを50%削減するという当社の目標は、いずれも2020年度を基準年としており、2021年にScience Based Targets initiative（SBTi）によって承認されています。そしてそれ以来、スコープ1と2の絶対排出量の約15%削減を達成しました。さらに、First Movers Coalition（ファースト・ムーバーズ・コアリション）の設立メンバーとして、ウエスタンデジタルは2030年までに少なくとも10%のネットゼロ燃料を海上輸送に使用することをコミットしました。中国・上海とマレーシア・ペナンにある当社の設備は、世界経済フォーラムのライトハウスネットワークにより、サステナビリティライトハウスに認定されています。
