日本時間12月13日（金）に開催されるアワードイベント「The Game Awards」のノミネート作品が発表された。

　年間でもっとも優れたゲーム作品や、功労者をたたえるアワードのひとつで、今年のノミネート作品には『Control』、『Death Stranding』、『バイオハザード RE:2』、『SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE』、『大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズ SPECIAL』、『The Outer Worlds』などが挙がっている。

　「The Game Awards」は、2003年から2012年まで行われた「Spike Video Game Awards」と2013年の「VGX」を前身とするアワード。著名な業界人の集まる団体によって選ばれる「D.I.C.E. Awards」や、世界のゲーム開発者が集まるイベント中に選ばれる「Game Developers Choice Awards」などの賞と並び、大きな影響力を持つアワードである。

　今年のゲーム・オブ・ザ・イヤーの栄冠を掴むのは一体どのタイトルなのか、気になっている人もいるのではないだろうか。

　今年は9部門で最多ノミネートしている『DEATH STRANDING』をはじめ、8部門でノミネートした『Control』、5部門でノミネートする『SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE』などの影響力の大きいタイトルが集まっており、激戦になると考えられる。また、ゲーム・オブ・ザ・イヤー6作品にノミネートされた作品のうち4作品が国内タイトルとなっており、日本のゲームに対する人気の高さを改めて認識できる。
